Sildenafil and Tadalafil: PDE5 inhibitors for Erectile Dysfunction

Taking tadalafil and sildenafil together is not recommended and can bring serious health risks.

1. Mechanism of action and effects on the body

Sildenafil: it is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor-5 (PDE-5). It works by blocking the PDE-5 enzyme, allowing nitric oxide in the body to relax the muscles of the penis, facilitating blood entry and producing an erection.

Tadalafil: it is also an PDE inhibitor-5 and has a mechanism of action similar to that of sildenafil in terms of facilitating erection.

2. Risks of using them together

Increased adverse effects:

-there is an increased risk of side effects such as severe headaches, dizziness, hypotension (low blood pressure), which in some cases may be dangerous. Hypotension can cause a feeling of fainting, vertigo and, in extreme cases, serious cardiovascular complications.

-there may also be an increase in the incidence of transient visual dysfunction, as both medications can affect eye blood circulation.

Dose overestimation:

-both drugs have a similar effect, and taking them together is equivalent to an overexposure to the inhibitory effect of PDE-5, which can lead to exaggerated responses in the body and an increased risk of complications.

If you have any difficulty with erectile function, a doctor should be consulted to determine the most appropriate and safe treatment, which will usually not involve the combination of these two medications.
